Green cardamom, scientifically known as Elettaria cardamomum, is a spice well-known for its extraordinary taste and aroma. Originating from the tropical regions of India and Malaysia, it is a global staple. The cardamom is used in a variety of dishes, both savoury and sweet and has been used historically as a key component in herbal medicines.
Economically the cardamom packs a punch too, the global cardamom market has been valued at almost USD 890.5 million in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 1,655.7 million by 2035, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 5.8% between 2025 and 2035.
Culinary Uses
In the culinary world, green cardamom is renowned for its versatility, considered by chef Ed Kimber to be the spice that “goes with just about everything”, which is why we consider it to be one of the most important spices we sell to wholesale manufacturers for a variety of different uses and productions.
The cardamom has both a sweet, peppery flavour with subtle floral undertones – its unique flavour is rivalled by no other spice, making it a brilliant ingredient for sweet and savoury cooking. The cardamom can be used whole or ground, adding to its versatility and ease of incorporation into dishes (although if you’ve ever bitten down on a whole one hiding in your curry, you’ll know about it!) The cardamom can be used in curries, cakes and your dirty chai latte! A very versatile addition to the kitchen pantry, whatever you’re making.

Wholesale
Companies buy wholesale cardamom to ensure cost efficiency, consistent supply, and high-quality sourcing for large-scale production. Bulk purchasing allows manufacturers in the food, beverage, and cosmetics industries to maintain steady ingredient availability while reducing costs per unit. Food producers use cardamom in baked goods, spice blends, and confectionery, while beverage companies incorporate it into teas, coffees, and spirits. The pharmaceutical and wellness sectors value its potential digestive and anti-inflammatory benefits, making it a key ingredient in herbal remedies and supplements. By buying in bulk, this also ensures consistency in flavour and aroma, which is crucial for maintaining a high quality across product batches.
Joseph Flach & Sons also offer mixed yellow cardamom pods as well as green cardamoms. The MYQ (mixed yellow quality) cardamom are a more cost-effective alternative, as they offer the same flavour and good volatile oil content as the green cardamom, but have a yellow hue and can vary in size.
